Eupatorium (Joe-Pye Weed)
Very tall, pleasingly simple perennial, whose upright purplish stems are gracefully adorned in long, purple-green lance-shaped leaves. Broad, airy clusters of wine-red flowers cloud over the plant in late summer, attracting butterflies.
Late-flowering plant for the perennial border, the meadow or wildgarden. Good cutflowers. Attracts butterflies.
Sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained, fertile soil.
